FIFA World Cup 2026 on Track to Become Airbnb's Largest-Ever Hosting Event

With the FIFA World Cup 2026™ kicking off in less than a month, Airbnb says bookings for the tournament have already surpassed every previous event in its history — including the 2024 Paris Olympics — making it the largest hosting event the platform has seen.

Record Demand

More guests are booked to stay on Airbnb during the tournament than at any prior event. Airbnb says the number of expected guests exceeds estimates produced by Deloitte ahead of the tournament. Approximately one in six guests booking tournament-time stays is a first-time Airbnb user.

Since beginning outreach in October 2025, over 100,000 homes have listed on Airbnb in host cities for the first time.

Who's Booking Last-Minute

Nations recording the biggest increases in last-minute tournament-time bookings include France, Costa Rica, and Spain. Among host cities, Philadelphia, Mexico City, and Miami have seen the sharpest booking growth as the tournament approaches.

Affordability Picture

For fans who have not yet secured accommodation, Airbnb says inventory remains available at accessible price points. 77% of entire-home listings still available for tournament dates are priced under $500 per night. Among already-booked listings, 86% were booked at under $500 per night.

To support last-minute searches, Airbnb has published the most affordable neighbourhoods across each of the 16 host cities, along with curated listings in those areas.

Host City Supply Growth

The scale of the tournament is driving lasting supply growth. Airbnb has previously documented a pattern where hosts who join for major events continue hosting after the event ends, expanding the platform's long-term inventory in those markets.

Dave Stephenson, Chief Business Officer at Airbnb, said: "The biggest sporting event on the planet is set to be the biggest hosting event in Airbnb history. For those yet to book, the good news is that Airbnb stays don't have to break the bank — the majority of available listings are under $500 a night. And every booking puts money in the pockets of local hosts."
