Airbnb Launches FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Experiences as Tournament Nears
With the FIFA World Cup 2026 less than 50 days out, Airbnb has announced a slate of curated fan experiences tied to the tournament. The move is part of Airbnb's broader push to position Experiences as a draw alongside its accommodation business — and signals clearly that the company is treating the World Cup as a major demand opportunity.
The headline item is "The Ultimate Quarter-Final Getaway," hosted by former England captain Rio Ferdinand. Ferdinand will be based in Los Angeles during the tournament and is inviting four pairs of guests to join him from July 8 to 11. The package includes tickets to a quarter-final match, a private Airbnb stay, a personal chef, and access to a live recording of his podcast. It's available to book free of charge starting May 12 at airbnb.com/rioferdinand, allocated first-come, first-served.
Other experiences in the line-up include a session with an adidas designer to customize an official World Cup jersey, and the chance to play a match on the pitch inside a FIFA World Cup 2026 stadium alongside former professionals.
What this means for hosts in host cities
The World Cup spans three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — across 16 cities. Airbnb has been actively investing in demand-generation marketing tied to the event, and experiences like these are designed to attract high-intent travelers to the platform. For hosts in cities like Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Seattle, Boston, Atlanta, Kansas City, San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto, and Guadalajara, the window from mid-June through mid-July is shaping up to be unusually busy.
Airbnb says it has already partnered with FIFA on these experiences. The company previously announced it is an official accommodation partner of FIFA World Cup 2026.
This is consumer-facing marketing more than a structural product change, but the volume of guests it channels into World Cup cities is real. If you're a host in one of the 16 tournament cities and haven't updated your pricing strategy for the summer, now is the time.
