Superhost (Airbnb program)

Superhost is Airbnb's recognition program for hosts who consistently deliver highly rated stays. The badge appears on the host's profile and listings, signaling reliability to guests, and comes with search visibility and marketing benefits. It is Airbnb's counterpart to quality and loyalty programs on other platforms — but it rewards the supplier rather than the traveler.

Qualification criteria

Airbnb evaluates hosts automatically every quarter over the trailing 12 months. To earn or keep Superhost status, a host must meet all of the following:

  • 4.8+ overall rating across eligible reviews
  • 90%+ response rate to new inquiries and booking requests within 24 hours
  • Under 1% cancellation rate (with exceptions for valid extenuating circumstances)
  • 10+ completed stays, or 3 reservations totaling at least 100 nights

There is no application — hosts who meet the bar are upgraded automatically, and those who slip below it lose the badge at the next quarterly assessment.

Benefits

  • The Superhost badge on listings and profile, a strong trust cue in search results
  • A dedicated search filter, so quality-focused guests can screen for Superhosts only
  • Priority customer support and a modest referral bonus coupon
  • Higher conversion: the badge functions as third-party proof of quality, which typically translates into better occupancy and pricing power

Why it matters

For professional short-term rental operators and property managers, Superhost status is a commercial asset comparable to a strong review score on an OTA — it compounds visibility and conversion on a platform where trust drives booking decisions. The strict cancellation threshold also shapes operator behavior: cancelling even a handful of bookings can cost the badge, which effectively imports hotel-style inventory discipline into the rental market. For hotels competing with short-term rentals, the program is a reminder that Airbnb has built a scaled, automated quality-signaling system entirely from behavioral data.
