Mastercard Will Put Checkout Inside Trip.com's TripGenie Assistant
Agentic booking has mostly been a demo problem: the assistant can find the room, then hands you off to a checkout page. Trip.com is closing that gap with a payments network rather than building it alone.
Mastercard and Trip.com have partnered to bring AI-powered booking to Trip.com's TripGenie assistant. Mastercard's Agent Suite for Merchants will power the assistant, enabling consumers to search, book and complete purchases in one flow.
The product is positioned as infrastructure a travel brand can drop into what it already runs — Agent Suite enables travel brands to offer agentic shopping experiences within their existing ecommerce environment, rather than sending the traveler to a third-party agent.
Scope and timing
The collaboration is expected to cover selected travel services first, including attractions and travel add-on services. It will be implemented in phases during 2027.
That is a deliberately narrow starting point. Attractions and ancillaries are lower-value, lower-complexity transactions with fewer change-and-refund consequences than a hotel or air booking — the natural place to test an agent that holds the card.
Mastercard's second travel deal this year
"As agentic AI drives a fundamental shift in how consumers shop, Mastercard is committed to providing merchants with a way to build, connect and scale AI-powered shopping experiences–that differentiate for their customers while ensuring they remain in control of their brand and customer engagements," said Mete Güney, EVP of market development for Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa at Mastercard.
The emphasis on merchants remaining "in control of their brand" is the sales pitch to OTAs worried that horizontal AI agents will stand between them and the traveler.
Earlier this year Mastercard announced a comparable partnership with MakeMyTrip, launching an AI travel and lifestyle concierge called Lifestyle Navigator that combines MakeMyTrip's marketplace and its Myra planning assistant with Mastercard's AI capabilities.
Two of Asia's largest OTAs now have the same payments partner sitting inside their assistant layer.
