SiteMinder: Shakira's Madrid Residency Lifts Bookings 15% and ADR to €339

Another data point in the residency-economics story: a single artist parking in one city for twelve nights is now worth a measurable double-digit lift in hotel demand and rate.
SiteMinder has published booking data for Madrid covering 18 September to 11 October 2026, the window of Shakira's European musical residency, compared with the same period in 2025.
What the numbers show
- Bookings up 14.8% year on year.
- Prices up 19.7%, with average daily rate rising to €339 from €283.
- Domestic bookings up 65%, as Spanish fans travel to Madrid for the concerts.
The residency is being staged at a purpose-built themed venue at the Iberdrola Music site in Madrid's Villaverde district, with capacity for 50,000 people across a programme designed to run wider than the concerts themselves.
Longer lead times, shorter stays
The more useful signal for revenue managers sits in the shape of the demand rather than its size.
Average booking lead time stretched from 106 days to 122 days — 15% longer — as travellers locked in accommodation further out. But average length of stay fell from 2.1 nights to 1.7, pointing to trips built tightly around a concert date rather than extended city breaks.
That combination — earlier commitment, shorter stays — is a different pricing problem from a normal high-season peak. It rewards properties that open inventory early and price the specific concert nights, rather than those relying on last-minute compression across a longer stay pattern.
"Madrid is becoming one of Europe's leading musical attractions," said Tamara Jiménez, SiteMinder's Director for Spain. "Shakira's residency, with 12 concerts, is having a direct impact on the city's hotel sector. The fact that travellers are planning their visits further in advance and opting for shorter stays shows how a major event can transform both demand and travel habits."
Context
The data comes from SiteMinder (ASX:SDR), which processes more than 140 million reservations a year worth over A$85 billion for its hotel customers. It is the second Madrid event read the company has published in recent weeks, following its Formula 1 weekend analysis, which showed ADR up 70% and lead times stretching to 130 days.
