OTB (On the Books)
OTB (On the Books) is the number of rooms (or the revenue) already reserved for a future date, as of the moment you check. It's a snapshot, not a trend: "OTB for December 24" simply means how many rooms are currently confirmed to sell for that night, regardless of when those bookings were made or how the number is moving.
OTB is the raw input that pace reports, pickup figures, and forecasts are all built from. Revenue managers pull OTB daily, segmented by room type, rate plan, channel, or market segment, to see exactly where demand currently stands before deciding whether to open, close, or reprice inventory.
Formula
OTB (Rooms) = Confirmed reservations for a given stay date, as of today
OTB (Revenue) = Sum of room revenue for those confirmed reservations
Example
On September 15, a 200-room hotel has 140 rooms confirmed for December 24. OTB for that date is 140 rooms (70% of capacity) at, say, €31,000 in room revenue — an implied ADR of about €221. Compared against STLY OTB of 120 rooms at the same booking horizon, the property is pacing ahead of last year.
Why it matters
OTB is the baseline every other revenue management calculation depends on. Pickup measures the change in OTB between two dates; Pace Variance compares current OTB against the same point in a prior booking cycle; a Total Revenue Forecast starts from OTB and adds unconstrained, unbooked demand on top. Without a clean OTB read, none of those downstream numbers mean anything.
