Booking.com has confirmed a data breach where hackers accessed customer information, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, and booking details. The breach, revealed on April 13, has raised significant concerns about data security at the travel booking giant.

The company informed affected customers last week, stating that unauthorized parties might have accessed certain booking information. According to reports on Reddit and other platforms, the compromised data includes details shared with accommodations, although Booking.com assured that financial information was not accessed.

A spokesperson for Booking.com, Courtney Camp, noted that the company detected suspicious activity involving unauthorized access to guest booking information. The company responded by updating reservation PIN numbers and notifying guests. However, Booking.com has not disclosed the number of customers affected by the breach.

The breach follows a history of cybersecurity challenges for Booking.com. In 2024, the company faced issues with spyware infections at several hotels, raising questions about its cybersecurity measures.

Customers are advised to remain vigilant for phishing attempts, as some users reported receiving phishing messages via WhatsApp containing their booking details and personal information. Booking.com has not provided further details on the breach's scope or the steps being taken to prevent future incidents.
