Brian Chesky Puts a Date on Airbnb's AI Agent: 2027

Airbnb's AI agent now has a launch year, which gives hosts and property managers a timeline for when the platform's front door could start to change.
Speaking by video at the Skift Global Forum on Wednesday, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said the company will launch its own AI agent in 2027.
"I've said this, and now you can hold me to a statement: Next year we will launch our agent," Chesky said. He added that the new interface would be "much richer than a chatbot."
From ambition to a date
Chesky has described Airbnb's future as an "agentic app" and an eventual AI concierge for years. On the company's August earnings call, he said that within roughly 12 to 18 months travelers would be able to bring a broad request to Airbnb, such as planning a family trip to Europe, and have the platform help assemble the trip.
Two weeks before the forum, he told a Goldman Sachs audience that Airbnb was still piloting richer AI interfaces.
Why "not a chatbot" matters
Text-only conversation is a poor fit for how people shop for stays, according to Skift's reporting. Guests browse dozens of homes and message hosts before they book. An agent that keeps listings, photos and host communication in view is a different proposition for hosts than a text box that summarises options.
Staying out of ChatGPT booking
Airbnb has so far kept booking out of ChatGPT, while Booking.com and Expedia have gone in. Chesky treats ChatGPT and Meta's Muse as distribution channels that already send traffic to Airbnb, rather than places to hand over the transaction.
Where Airbnb's AI stands now
- Airbnb has shipped more than 600 features this year, nearly double last year's total.
- AI now handles close to half of customer-service tickets, in 50 languages.
- That has helped cut support costs per booking by 16% year over year.
What hosts should watch
An in-app agent that plans whole trips would give Airbnb a new layer between the guest's request and the listings shown. Airbnb has not said how the agent will choose or rank listings, so the details of that selection are the thing for hosts to watch once the 2027 launch approaches.
