Airbnb hosts in the US and Canada should expect stricter booking checks this weekend. The company is switching its elevated anti-party system back on for Halloween, for the sixth year in a row, and says it will block or redirect higher-risk bookings.

The technology weighs several factors to spot risky booking attempts. It either blocks the booking or sends the guest to other options, such as private rooms and hotels. Unauthorized parties are banned on Airbnb.

Last year's numbers

Airbnb says its defenses over last Halloween weekend deterred more than 23,500 people in the US from booking an entire home. That included about 3,230 in Texas, 3,170 in Florida and about 1,600 in Georgia. In Canada, nearly 3,000 people were deterred, including about 1,240 in Ontario, 660 in Quebec and close to 560 in Alberta.

Party reports stay rare. In 2025, about 0.06% of US reservations led to a party report, which Airbnb credits partly to its defenses. Its machine-learning reservation screening runs year-round, not only at Halloween.

What hosts get

This year Airbnb is sharing updated guidance with US hosts. It covers setting expectations in listing descriptions and house rules, spotting warning signs, questions to ask guests, and how to report concerns to Airbnb Support.

Other tools mentioned include a Neighborhood Support Line for residents, a 24-hour Safety Line for hosts and guests, a noise sensor offer for hosts, and a law enforcement channel and response team.

Roger Kaiser, Airbnb's Vice President of Fraud and Safety Operations, said most Halloween weekend bookers are visiting family, taking a fall getaway or going to a football game, and that the defenses are designed with that in mind. Nashville host Barbara Culligan said she still monitors reservations and talks to guests, but finds it reassuring that Airbnb flags problem bookings behind the scenes. She called party prevention a shared responsibility.

Minors

Airbnb reminded parents and guardians that anyone under 18 cannot hold an account, and adults may not book for a minor unless they stay for the whole trip. Violations can mean losing the account, cancelled trips and liability for property damage.
